Micronesia part 2

Heading out on our tour of snorkeling, lunch on an island, visiting waterfalls and some ancient ruins.

Getting started on our Tour.

We had a good time on our guided tour. The tour included an all day trip with a guide that took us to two placed to snorkel. Snorkeling was really great. The colors and variety of coral and fish are amazing.

We also visited this beautiful Kepirohi Falls, falls on our tour. There was a good size pool to wade or swim in at the bottom of the falls.

The boat approaching Nan Madol an ancient place built with huge rocks see the link to learn more about it. www.janesoceania.com/.../nan_madol2.jpg

Mom liked having lunch on a small island in the area we were snorkeling. She dreamed of being on Surviver and being on our own island.

Standing on the Petroglyphs, which are rocks that have carvings on them. It was interesting to find it. There are no signs and only a few roads. The map had very little details. So we had to ask a lot of questions and even some of the local people had no idea.

Carvings

More carvngs.

Some friends who visited the Petroglyphs with us.

Another beautiful flower on the Island.

Mom, checking out the waterfalls and resting from the hike down into what seemed like a canyon.

Oliver will follow Andrew almost anywhere.

We visited another beautiful waterfall. Three people were killed visiting this falls during a rain storm because of a flood of water that came down from the mountains.

On the night before we left we visited some missionary friends and celebrated Megan's birthday.

MIcronesia 2008

Greetings,
This is my first attempt at doing a blog and it seems like a lot of fun.

Here are some pictures of our trip to Pohnpei Micronesia:

We had a couple hours layover in Hawaii and the Pilot of our plane took this picture.
Megan getting ready to serve up some fresh coconut from their front yard.
Andrew with Oliver and Rocky (rocky is the neighbors dog with the black snout)
Road to one of the waterfalls. Since the island gets over 16 feet of rain on the coast and over 30 feet in the mountains there are some beautiful waterfalls.

When you visit a place like this it is on private property and to view the falls we paid the property owner for the privilege. In all the places we visited we paid the property owner for the opportunity to see it.

This falls and the one above were both viewed from the same place. There was a trail down to the falls but it looked pretty steep so we just looked at them from a distance.

This as the "Village" a resort where we ate dinner and booked our trip to snorkel, visit a waterfall and Nan Modal.

Another view of the restaurant. This is the largest grass hut on the island and the sight of the restaurant.

The view is great from our dinner table and the food was very good. Mom and I shared Mahi Mahi and Andrew and Megan had Almond Chicken.

This is a view of the ocean inside the coral reef the waves are breaking about a mile from the land on the reef.
